Ford had a small preoccupation with modularity in the late ‘70s/early ‘80s, they also did another concept car in that period that was a flat chassis with interchangeable bodies. T he idea was you could rent a body from a dealer for specific purposes, or change it out as your life circumstances changed, and that was somehow cheaper/more convenient than renting or trading in for a whole car.
